The first Mass was offered at Sacred Heart on November 12, 1905 by Father John A. O'Hagan. The first building was a vacant store on 14th and Mill. The next was the former Bellingham Herald building. In 1912 the parish broke ground on 14th and Knox, where Sacred Heart stands today. The original members of Sacred Heart Parish were immigrants from Ireland, Germany, French Canada, or states in the East and Midwest. In 1915, a large number of families from the Adriatic coast of Yugoslavia established a large fishing community in Fairhaven, making Sacred Heart their home.
Father Joseph Altenhofen and his Pastoral Staff offer you a warm welcome to Sacred Heart.
